An Evening of Folk Songs by Dr. Tapan Roy from India at Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre at Gulshan in Dhaka at 6:30 PM on September 21, 2012 Indira Gandhi Culture Centre, Dhaka in association with the State Bank of India in Bangladesh and Channel i as Media Partner, is organising an Evening of Folk Songs by eminent exponent from India, Dr. Tapan Roy at 6:30 PM on September 21, 2012 at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, H.No. 35, Road No. 24, Gulshan-1. Dr. Tapan Roy is an ICCR empanelled Folk Song artist who completed his Masters in Vocal Music from the Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata and subsequently had the distinction of earning his Doctorate in Lokosangeet from the Kalyani University under the supervision of Prof. Barun Kumar Chakraborty. Dr. Roy has also trained in Classical Music under Kalyan Guhathakurta, in Modern Songs under Pintu Bhattacharya, in Nazrul Geeti under Sukumar Mitra and in Loko Sangeet under Dinendra Chaudhuri. Dr. Tapan Roy has had the distinction of being the Play Back singer for the film, “Dekha” directed by Gautam Ghosh as well as the privilege of singing 13 original songs of Lalon Fakir in the documentary film—“Lalon Fakir” produced by the Film Division of the Government of India. He also lent his voice for the songs of the film, “In the Land of Chinnopatra” produced by the National Film Development Corporation of India as well as for several other Bengali films and tele-serials. Dr. Tapan Roy specializes in all types of Bengali Folk Songs-- Bhatiali, Saari, Jari, Murshida, Marfati, Bhawaiya, Chotka, Baul, Jhumur, Dhamail, etc. He participated in Bangla Utsav 2003 in Canada as a folk singer and also in Nababarsha Utsav 2005 at the Dhaka Club in Bangladesh. He worked as a Music Director for renowned group theatres like Bahurupi, Samakalin Sankriti, Roop Darshan and others. Dr. Roy was instrumental in the preparation of 4 jingles on pulse polio immunization for the Directorate of Health Services, Govt. of Paschimbanga for broadcast through the All India Radio. Dr. Tapan Roy has released several popular CDs and cassettes commencing with “Aakaashe Batashe” in 1998 from HMV. His music albums include “Hasan Rajar Gaan”, “Islami Gaan”, “Antare Bahire”, “Rabi Bauler Gan”, “Tista Parer Kanya“, “Praner Alaap” etc. You are cordially invited to the Evening of Folk Songs by ICCR Empanelled Folk Song artist from India, Dr. Tapan Roy, at 6:30PM on September 21, 2012, at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre in Gulshan-1.
